Since Monday (23/09), Brazil has been going through its seventh heat wave of the year. Several cities in the country saw their temperatures rise abruptly, some reaching 40°C. The data is from Climatempo.
And it doesn't stop there. The hot air mass has been preventing the formation of clouds and, consequently, rain. All of this has raised the alert for fires and worsening air quality.
The combination heat + dry weather + pollution can pose some risks to the body and even harm mental health. See below how to alleviate the discomforts of the weather with simple and practical tips:
5 precautions to take in extreme heat
1
Basic care
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), which has been issuing extreme heat alerts, recommends basic measures, such as adequate hydration, avoiding intense physical activity and sun protection.
As for hydration, Chinese Medicine recommends: reduce your consumption of cold water (if you can avoid it, even better), as it has a refreshing effect at the time, but increases the rebound effect of heat. Give preference to fresh water!
2
To calm the mind
By calming the mind, we can alleviate states of agitation, anxiety and sadness. meditation to calm down emerges as a powerful tool in this context.
Neuroscience studies indicate that the practice reduces unpleasant responses to negative emotions and provides a feeling of comfort.

Staying hydrated and well-fed is crucial during a heatwave. Juices, fruits, vegetables and legumes are light and refreshing options.
Avoiding excessive alcohol consumption is also advisable, opting for natural juices, iced teas and foods rich in water to ensure a adequate hydration.
