A myopia surgery is indicated for patients who have stabilized myopia, generally for at least one year. Young patients, under the age of 21, are more likely to have refractive variations, and therefore are not usually good candidates until the prescription is stable.

Most of laser procedures It is effective in correcting myopia of up to -10.00 diopters. For higher degrees, other techniques, such as phakic intraocular lens implantation, may be recommended.

It is essential that the cornea is thick enough to undergo corneal tissue removal and, to this end, it is essential to assess the viability of the procedure through tests such as pachymetry and corneal topography.

Those patients with diseases such as keratoconus, cataracts or glaucoma are not good candidates for refractive surgery.
